H&M Comes Under Fire for Using Tan Model in Swimwear Campaign

With skin cancer concerns at a fever pitch, H&M is getting all kinds of criticism for using a dark-tanned model in their new swimwear advertising.

The discount retailer has been made to defend itself for putting Isabeli Fontana on their website and billboards given how tan she is, even though there’s no certainty how she got so dark.

Early Skin Cancer Center Doctor Ralph Braun told press, “I find this advertisement very alarming and borderline. Many people, especially the young, will try to emulate this and will try to be just as brown, although with some skin types this is just not possible.”

And Cornelia Egli from the Swiss Cancer League added, “This completely contradicts our advertising efforts.”
