Carmen Marc Valvo Spring 2014 at NYFW: Watch Here!

“This is the calm before the storm,” Carmen Marc Valvo told us backstage just minutes before his Spring 2014 collection hit the runway.
His version of calm involved Ted Gibson and his team of hairstylists cutting, styling and securing graduated bobbed wigs dip-dyed in black. NARS makeup pros were transforming models’ faces from their eyes to their lips, and Morgan Taylor nail artists were painting French mani’s and pedi’s — except with black tips instead of white. Then there was us — camera crews and editors pouncing at every interview and photo opp available. One French-Canadian team walked right up to Carmen Marc Valvo and unknowingly asked, “Who are you?”
“I’m the designer,” he laughed in good spirit. It was a crazy sort of calm, but the pieces came together.
Of the collection, Valvo told us, “We took tribal print and stripped it of all color.” In some cases, he stripped it of fabric, too. Sheer linings were present and revealed just the right amount of skin. Tailoring was kept simple, as to avoid overpowering the strong patterns.
We’re sure some of these gowns will appear on red carpets, and can only imagine the lucky A-listers who get to wear them.
