DIY Fashion was backstage for Rebecca Minkoff's Fall 2013 presentation at New York Fashion Week (February 8), where we met up with makeup artist Sarah Lucero from Stila Cosmetics, who dished to us on how she gave the models their fierce runway looks.
When Lucero found out Minkoff’s collection was inspired by Amelia Earhart, she knew she needed to show a strong and independent woman. “I wanted something bold and structured and kind of strong, think of that woman who’s going to fly that plane and jet set on her own.”
For the eyes, Lucero went for a cobalt blue (Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Cobalt), creating a straight and sleek line across the model’s lid. “I feel like the color itself sets the atmosphere and makes everything pop – the opacity of it, the sharpness of it. It need to be bold, but it needed to be a color that goes with mustard yellow, tweeds, texture, camel, reds, black and I feel like this is what it needed.”
We were thrilled to hear that this stunning blue color not only goes with every eye color, but also all skin tones and eye shapes.
For lips, the Stila expert requests a high shine to amplify a dewy look. A stunning apricot color (Stila Apricot Lip Glaze) was used on the models, giving them that perfect peachy glow, matched with Color Balm Lipstick in Ali.
And what is the product Lucero thinks every girl (and herself) should have? Stila convertible blush. It takes little effort for product to bring out your finest flushed look, making it the perfect item for beginners and pros.
