Retailers are rocking around the Christmas tree with the extra cheerful news they received over the weekend.
Black Friday is known as the biggest shopping day of the year, but after all is said and done "Super Saturday" may be taking the crown this time around.
Putting a figure on the discrepancy, Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners, estimates that this weekend could exceed Black Friday for the first time in 10 years by $1 billion to $2 billion!
While the aggressive discounting through the short shopping season peaked this weekend, major retailers like Macy's and Toys 'R Us also extended their hours, allowing customers to take full advantage of last minute gift-buying.
ShopperTrak founder Bill Martin told WWD, "Super Saturday could be the number-one day of the year," adding that last Friday to today might prove to be "the largest spending period of the year."
