Ralph Lauren: Pulling the Plug on Rugby Line

For decades his duds have been the standard for preppy American apparel, however Ralph Lauren has decided to cut losses and say goodbye to his Rugby range.

According to WWD, Lauren plans on pulling the plug on the off-shoot in February 2013 including the e-commerce site and the 14 stores

But it’s not all bad news; COO Roger Farah sees the move as a chance to put more emphasis on other aspects of the brand.

He explained, "We think the Ralph Lauren aesthetic translates beautifully into accessories. And my guess is over the long term, [accessories are] going to be a very big part of what we do, and that will be more prevalent in Asia and some of the emerging markets than perhaps some of the more mature markets."
