Fall Style Forecast: A Complete Look at What to Expect from Fashion Next Season
The lazy days of summer are flying by at an astronomical rate.
At this pace, the fall season will be here before we know it, and you know what that means - new season, new wardrobe.
The trends for this upcoming autumn/winter are quite fabulous. They’re all about neutral tones with pops of rich, sultry burgundy and blue hues combined with structured military pieces and other masculine-inspired designs; a far cry from this past spring and summer’s girly frocks and neon/pastel color palette.
We all here at DIY love forecasting fashion just as much as the next stylista, which is why we’ve put together a complete report of what to expect from the clothing and accessory realm this fall. Why start so early you ask? Because, it’s never to early to start priming your closet for the next season, of course!
Boyish Charm: Masculine-inspired pieces dominated the runways during fall 2012 fashion week. The androgynous look is all the rage for fall, so all you’ll have to do is raid your boyfriend’s closet to look like you’re in the fashion know. Stick to slim-cut tuxedo pieces, blazers with chic lapels, leather penny loafers, over-sized collar coats, sleek button downs, etc… A great way to offset all this fashion testosterone, is by adding a little bit of feminine flare to these pieces such as lace and silk tops.
Military Mania: The runway shows of Jason Wu, Prabal and Rag & Bone (just to name a few) were chock full of pieces with sharp edges and majorly structured silhouettes. As edgy double-breasted military coats, sleek high-necked apparel/outerwear and glorious epaulette accents made their way onto the catwalk, fashion lovers everywhere stood at attention at this fabulously demanding trend.
Back to Black…and Navy Blue: Dubbed as the ‘it’ color combo of the autumn fashion season, this rich hue pairing can be seen in the fall collections of designers such as Carolina Herrera, Preen and Marc Jacobs. Giving off a seriously mysterious, yet sexy vibe – these colors together make for one alluring mixture we can’t wait to don.
Crisp Color Palette: The hottest hues of the season are actually lacking some pigment. Black, winter white, grey and beige tones make up the foundational clothing pieces we’re swooning over for fall. However, designers didn’t drop color altogether. Tibi, Alexander Wang and Nanette Lepore were a few of the many labels that incorporated luscious splashes of burgundy into their autumn lines. Certainly one of the more popular hues of the season, this rusty red warms up skin tone and is as enticing as warm tones come.
Leather, Leather and more Leather: Leather shirts, pants, coats, footwear – you name it. Clothing and accessories made from this sexy fabric are heating up style radars everywhere and we love it. The look is sleek and sultry, yet totally refined and sophisticated – a hard line to walk with fashion sometimes. Designers such as Rodarte, Derek Lam, and Michael Kors introduced some incredible leather pieces at their fall 2012 shows that left us breathless.
Wildcard Trend - Jumpsuits: Rachel Zoe, Thakoon and Peter Som were a few of the designers who included sleek jumpsuits in their fall 2012 collections. Crisp and clean, this style lends the wearer a seriously svelte silhouette. Like a maxi dress, this piece is extremely versatile. It can be worn on both formal and casual occasions and is incredibly effortlessly chic.
Accessory Report: Chic headwear is sticking around for another season, and cloche hats for fall are the direct equivalent to floppy hats for summer. They’re a total season essential that possesses the power to complete any ensemble. The look is oh, so 50’s/60’s chic and is certainly something we could get used it wearing. Belts are another season must-have. A defined waist is an extremely popular silhouette for fall, and a belt makes cinching so much easier to accomplish!
