EXCLUSIVE: Fashion Week Veteran Nina Garcia Talks Shows, Style & Google Glass!

As if witnessing BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Spring 2014 runway show last week wasn’t enough excitement to kick off NYFW, we bumped into Nina Garcia while shuffling our way out of our seats.
The “Project Runway” judge and Marie Claire creative director stopped to share her thoughts on the collection, lend some style insight, and explain what’s up with the strange glasses she was sporting.
What did you think of BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Spring 2014 Collection?
I thought the show was fantastic. I always look for BCBG to offer the trends in a very realistic and wearable way. I don’t think I ever come to this show and leave thinking, “I can’t wear that” or “that’s too weird.” There’s an effortlessness and femininity about this collection that I really appreciate.
Does Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week ever get old for you?
I’ve been going to shows for almost 20 years now and in reality, it feel like 20 minutes because fashion changes so fast that you never get bored.
You’re showing off a new accessory at fashion week this year — Google Glass. Why did you decide to wear them?
It’s another experience that I want to offer my followers — I want them to experience what the fashion shows are like. [Google Glass] is like the life of Nina through Fashion Week. (Follow her at #BeNina!)
We see Google has yet to give you lenses — does it feel strange walking around with just frames?
A little bit, but you get used to it!
Let’s talk about fall: Do you have any autumn must-haves?
I’m obsessing over the Saint Laurent flat shoes with all the charms. I think they would be great for fashion week. By the time I’m in Paris, I want to have them.
Are there any fashion rules that you think are meant to be broken?
White after Labor Day! With this weather that’s so unpredictable, I think you can wear white anytime.
