Gucci Goes Green with New Handbag Line
In an effort to become more environmentally friendly in their pursuit of fabulous goods, Gucci announced their new lineup of handbags using legally-produced leather from the Brazilian Amazon.
According to a report, the Gucci Green Carpet Challenge Handbag Collection is comprised of three styles, including the hobo, top-handle tote, and New Jackie.
Green Carpet Challenge honcho Livia Firth told press that getting introduced to the National Wildlife Federation and Rainforest Alliance was a life-changing experience.
“I learned a lot in the two years that it took us to arrive to today’s launch. When I first came across the National Wildlife Federation and the work that they were doing in Brazil, it’s the first time I learned that two-thirds of deforestation is caused by cattle ranching. I had no idea.”
“Today we have five ranches that have been certified. It’s very, very important to get a luxury brand to push the agenda and to push the demand into the supply chain, so that from five ranches we can move to 10 and then 20.”
