Going to Great Lengths: Helpful Tips to Naturally Stimulate Hair Growth

We all swoon after the luscious locks of Gisele Bundchen and Blake Lively.

Long, flowy and healthy, their to-die-for tresses are the envy of all women who crave a beautiful, bountiful head of hair.

You can achieve great lengths with extensions. They are a great alternative for the gal who wants a long mane, stat. However, this procedure is rather costly – not to mention the intense upkeep it requires.

So, for the lady who is functioning within a budget, long locks are still attainable! There are a few do’s and don’ts to implement into your lifestyle that will lend you sexy tresses in no time! All are easy to live by, extremely manageable, and best of all – free!

Do…massage your scalp. Scalp stimulation is the most important thing that will lead to hair growth. Why? Because, the stimulation will cause blood to travel to the roots of your hair, which will deliver the proper nutrients needed at the base to encourage growth and produce hair more quickly. So, without bending your fingers, move them around on your scalp in a circular motion. Do this on different areas of your scalp for about 30 seconds in each section for five minutes every day.

Don’t…brush wet hair. Your tresses are extremely vulnerable and fragile while wet. Running a brush through it and pulling on knots will only cause breakage. Instead, run your fingers through it gently, to loosen and separate hair. If you must use something to smooth out your locks, gently run a comb through hair.

Do…use a natural boar-bristle brush. If you’re going to brush while wet, or for a great everyday product, a boar-bristle one is fabulous as it prevents hair breakage and is gentle on hair. Avoid using artificial brushes, they’ll snag hair and cause strands to snap.

Don’t…tie hair back too tightly (especially with rubber bands or metal hair clips). Continuous pressure exerted on the roots will hinder growth and only encourage breakage. We’re not saying don’t tie hair back at all – just be sure to do it loosely.

Do… air dry hair whenever possible. Excessive heat will be a detriment to your strands. Also, be aware of how many times a week/day you’re applying styling tools to your hair. Cut down on usage if possible.

Don’t… wash your hair everyday. Before you freak out, we’re not saying not to wash your body everyday – please do. However, washing your tresses each and every day strips it of its natural oils, which are extremely beneficial to hair and growth! So, go for as long as possible so that your locks can lock in all that natural moisture. To cut down on grease issues, use a dry shampoo in between showers.

Do…monitor your diet. Diets rich in protein and fresh vegetables are encouraged for those looking to lengthen their locks. Fish and nuts are also great, as they are rich in essential fatty acids. If you’re looking into taking vitamins to stimulate growth, snag ones rich in vitamins B12, A, B7 and Biotin – all vital to the health of your hair. B12 can also be found in eggs and poultry items, spinach and carrots are packed with Vitamin A, and B7 is stored in foods such as oatmeal, chicken and beef. Avoid overly processed and sugary foods.
