Make Your Own Headbands & Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are all the rage this year. Everything from feather extensions to hippie chic headbands can be seen on the heads of fashion forward individuals right now!

We wanted to suggest a few easy and inexpensive ways you can create your own headpieces and headbands. Any of these items can be found at your local fabric/craft store.

Hippie-Chic Headband:

What you’ll need:
- 3 pieces of ribbon
- Needle and thread

How to: Purchase three pieces of ribbon. Make sure at least two of these strands are made of different fabrics such as suede and satin. The other strand can be a normal piece of ribbon, any color of your choosing. Measure these strands so that they are long enough to fit around your head. Once you have the desired length, cut off any access ribbon. Knot the three pieces together at one end. Then, braid the ribbon. Once you reach the end of the strands knot them a second time to hold the braid in place. Then thread the two ends of the headband together, so that your headband is a circle. Now, you’re ready to wear your homemade hippie-chic headband!

Hair Clip and Headband

What You’ll Need:
- Small/medium/large fabric design
- Alligator hair clip
- Headband
- Super glue

How to: You can grab fabric designs at any craft store – fabric flowers, feathers, art deco designs, etc. If you’re making a hair clip, simply super glue the design of your choosing onto the alligator hair clip. Allow glue to dry before using in your hair. The process is the same if you plan on making a headband. Super glue the art deco design of your choosing to the side of the headband (Make sure you off-center it, a big flower or bow on the top may look strange). Allow glue to dry before you wear the headband.
